I gave up on being an artist maybe four years ago -- and I found out that I needed to do the art in order to do the writing.

Go figure.Sean Cravenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13763869499494698057noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3379518858474986857.post-68383842526952655992009-05-18T19:25:00.000-07:002009-05-18T19:25:00.000-07:00That's a great one to push.

I liked how my RedBubble one turned out, if you need a recommendation.

Again, great stuff. You're a lucky guy to be able to wear the writing and artist hats at the same time. Once upon a time I did too, but I've given one up.

Great stuff, again.Glendon Mellowhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03582347493421110738noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3379518858474986857.post-46358367443199832702009-05-18T08:55:00.000-07:002009-05-18T08:55:00.000-07:00Glendon, thank you so much for this. As I recall, my pissy-assed remarks revealed some resentment about this...

Now that I'm starting to regard myself as a 'real' artist, the art world looks less like a pile of shit and more like a pile of shit with some holes in it where a rat can curl up and keep warm. Nothing like the familiar discovery that horrible institutions are usually composed of decent people, some of whom want to help you.

Have to say, I was a bit irritated when The Watchmen came out because of the possible confusion regarding Ozymandias I was referring to.

(Incidentally, what Alexander the Great-influenced superhero would take on the name of an ironic loser from a romantic poem? Seems as if he intended to fail from the start.)

And I'm going to be taking photography and 3-D graphics this fall. At some point I'm going to do a series springing from Blossom. It's gotten a lot of positive reaction from people so I'm going to try and push it a bit.Sean Cravenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13763869499494698057noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3379518858474986857.post-46281423547829026612009-05-17T18:17:00.000-07:002009-05-17T18:17:00.000-07:00This whole series is just tremendous. You've taken a simple set of studies and pushed them into a new realm, a catalogue of strange sights. Blossom and Ozymandias are my favourites, I think.

I love the rebirth evident in Blossom, and the slightly sinister aspect of plucking that flower.

And Ozymandias is. Like Allison I'm familiar with The Kicker but was really impressed with the diversity of the whole set. My favorites are The Mask and The Last Tree We Saw (really enjoyed the colors in that one), but they're all chilling and gorgeous. Good luck with the grant!Lutzhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04410108316478608878noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3379518858474986857.post-50950496114406997712009-05-08T09:46:00.000-07:002009-05-08T09:46:00.000-07:00Hey, all!

But the bones were either scanned or photographed -- figuring out how to make the shadows work together was the trickiest part of the process.

Hey, Allison -- these were done partially as inspiration for the novel. Late in The Ghost Rockers you'll find that a lot of these images show up as landscape descriptions -- and there's a fight with the Kicker.

And Zach, The Gate Of Dreams is my favorite as well. Obviously some heavy digital work on them after capturing them, but did they start "life" as photos or paintings?

Very cool in anycase, and I LOVE that Velociraptor one!traumadorhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00387315561167115253noreply@blogger.com
