Another Tiny Step: A Business Card

So the idea is that this is folded in half, with the eyeball logo in the front and my contact information in the back. When you unfold it you find this...

It's been adapted from the big print I posted a while ago. The practical nature of vector illustration comes into play here -- all the elements in this are separate objects that I can cut and paste and manipulate to my heart's content and they'll print cleanly at any size. Rock on, Adobe Illustrator.

I've got to say that I have had a few thoughts about whether or not it's really a good idea to have a business card that features, well. Gore.

But if you can't handle a dinosaur fight you probably shouldn't think about working with me. Right?

Right.

I love it.

Go for standing out. Keep the dinosaur scene!

I think it looks great but it might be a little pricey. I don't know how many cards you want, but on a business card stock you're going to want it scored where the fold takes place, so you should check with your designer/printer re. the best way to lay it out to minimize printing and scoring costs. I have an excellent desktop guy I've worked with 8 years if you don't have someone in mind.

Well, I'm actually getting this done as a favor by the missus's (and, I suppose, my) son-in-law. He's been wanting to do something to pay me off for babysitting and we've talked about this for a long time now.

I'm gonna have to fold it by hand, though. I'm wondering how I'm going to handle the scoring or if simply folding it will do the trick.

I may have to work up some kind of jig or form to make it work -- but the missus has a knack for that kind of craftwork, so I'll be able to draw on her talents.

Sean, I found a link to your blog at Laelaps.
I see you are an artist, and I search for such people for my biological project - Neocene, life 25 MY in the future. If you are interested, here it is a link:
http://www.sivatherium.h12.ru/englver.htm
It is an English page of the project. If you want, you may join the project as an illustrator. Interesting ideas are also welcomed.

Hey, Pavel!

Well, I'm very grateful for your interest but right now I've got a bunch of projects of my own. I've had a tendency to let myself get distracted and I'm trying to learn how to focus.

That said, your project looks fascinating and I'm looking forward to reading through it. I'm going to make a post or two on speculative biology at some point and I'll be sure and link to you then.

And now I'm going to have to track down a copy of Parallel Botany. That one looks like it's got a fine-arts influence and that always gets me excited.

If you have an access to the paper copy, can you send me some parts of text? In my electronic copy some parts of book are scanned incorrectly, and I can't translate it into Russian.
As for pics, you may tell to any familiar artists about the project...

You are right! Business cards have a visual effect on the customer which help to raise your business.
